Book on Iromie’s paintings

The launch of Iromie Wijewardena Paintings, a publication by Sarvodaya Vishvalekha will take place at Galle Face Hotel tomorrow, Monday at 6.15 p.m. Arrangements have been made to make this event a tribute to Iromie’s career spanning over few decades. As one of Sri Lanka's leading contemporary artists, Iromie has ably evolved a distinct personal style of painting women.
Many facets of women have been shown in all her paintings, based on the same theme. The colours she has used give a subtle imagery to the female figure. They appear traditional but they do not resemble the figures of our temple paintings. The graceful movement of their figures stir the viewer’s imagination to appreciate their beauty.

"The figures are not mere images but symbols of emotions,” said a critic in summing up Iromie’s art.
The book is compiled by Gamini Jayasinghe with text by D.B. Kappagoda.
