Bachelor Boy is heading this way!

Perennial Bachelor Boy, Sir Cliff Richard is the latest superstar headed down Sri Lanka way, and will perform at The Exhibition and Convention Centre on February 23.

One of a rare group of singers to have hit the charts in each of the last six decades – the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s and the new Millennium - Sir Cliff and his band will be in the middle of a World Tour which begins next month with a 23-show swing through the UK - all major arenas.

Born Harry Roger Webb in Lucknow, Northern India, he is undoubtedly one of the all-time popular international artistes in the history of music in Sri Lanka.

With evergreens like Summer Holiday, Lucky Lips, Living Doll, Please Don’t Tease, We Don’t Talk Anymore, Devil Woman, Dreamin’, Young Ones, Miss You Nights, Dancing Shoes, A Little In Love, Do You Wanna Dance, Congratulations, Wired For Sound, Millennium Prayer, and the list goes on and on, the singing Knight had, lately, been restricting himself to world tours every three to four years, and his concert is one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the region.

Sir Cliff who turns 66 on October 14, last toured in 2003. However, he has been involved in several major events, mostly in the UK, to keep himself in form.

In between, he spends a lot of time in his holiday home in Barbados, in the Caribbean, in addition to his other passion, an award winning winery on a fairly large farm in Portugal.

Sir Cliff marks the 50th anniversary of his first-ever hit, Move It, in 2008!

According to a statement released by his management, The Cliff Richard Organisation, the 23-concert tour, which begins on November 4 with a five-show season at the giant Wembley Stadium, was sold out several weeks ago.

He then embarks on a nine-concert tour of the Middle East and Asia, starting on February 2 in Dubai, followed by shows in Hong Kong, (Feb 5), Bangkok (Feb 7), Kuala Lumpur (Feb 9 and 10), Singapore (Feb 11), Manila (Feb 13), Tokyo (Feb 15) followed by his appearance in Colombo.

There are also plans to slot in a couple of performances in South Africa before he winds up his long tour with 10 shows in Europe, taking in Finland, Norway, France, Belgium, Holland, Iceland, Denmark and Germany - the last two countries staging two concerts each.

The Colombo concert is handled by Damayantha Kuruppu along with prominent show-biz personality Vijaya Corea who, through his connections with major Australian-based international talent agency, BM Entertainment, helped clinch the concert deal.

The Sunday Times understands that tickets for the Colombo concert are expected to be available to the public from December 1.
