Aitken Spence’s key management team

The Aitken Spence Group last week provided profiles of its management team led by Deputy Chairman and CEO Rajan Britto. The group is chaired by controversial business baron Harry Jayawardene.

Together with a multi-disciplined knowledge, Britto brings with him a wealth of 25 years of international experience working with Price Waterhouse - London, British EverReady PLC, Minmetco Group, World Bank and PERC.

He is Chairman, DFCC Bank and DFCC Vardhana Bank. He is also a Director of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation. Dr. R M Fernando heads Plantations and Business Development and has extensive experience particularly in the plantation industry both in the public and private sectors. He was the past Chairman of the Planters’ Association of Ceylon and was the founder Chairman of the Tea Association of Sri Lanka - the apex body for the tea industry. Ranjan Casie Chetty is the Secretary of Aitken Spence & Co., Ltd. and a Director of some Group companies. He has been actively involved in numerous committees of professional institutes and chambers of commerce. He was the former Chairman of Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association.

Rohantha Peiris heads the Freight Forwarding and Express Division. He has wide industry experience and is a past-chairman of the Sri Lanka Freight Forwarders Association.

Niranjan Nallaratnam heads Integrated Logistics. He has many years of experience in the industry and is a member of several industry bodies. Indrajit Abeywardene heads the Printing sector of the Group. Nilanthi Sivapragasam is the Chief Financial Officer of the Group. Gehan Perera heads the Destination Management sector in the Group. He is the Immediate Past President and an honorary member of the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO). Devan de Mel is the Managing Director of the Power Generation sector of the Group. He formerly headed the Corporate Planning Unit and was closely involved in the Group’s diversification into the power generation. Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake who heads Maritime Transport was the former Chairman/Chief Executive of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and Jaya Container Terminals Ltd.

Malin Hapugoda heads the Hotels sector of the Group. He is a professional hotelier counting many years of managerial experience within several hotel companies and is the Immediate Past President of the Tourist Hotels’ Association of Sri Lanka and a Member of the Tourism Cluster.

Nimmi Guneratne is the Managing Director of Aitken Spence Insurance (Pvt) Ltd., and is the General Manager of the Lloyds Agency in Colombo and the Maldives. She is the current vice president of the Sri Lanka Insurance Institute. Sasi Ganeshan is the Managing Director of the General Sales Agency of Singapore Airlines in Colombo, as well as the Company’s Outbound Travels division. He counts many years of experience in and possesses a wide knowledge of the travels industry.

Susith Jayawickrama was promoted to the Aitken Spence Group Board, in April 2005. He is presently the Director General Manager of Aitken Spence Hotels and serves on the Boards of several hotel companies in the Group. He has been with the company for the past 16 years and has wide experience and exposure in the tourism industry and in the field of finance.
