‘Uththamachara’ by the STF

'Uththamachara' (Salutation), young director Charith Kiriella's latest minifilm woven around a story on the security forces completed its filming on location with the participation of a large number of security personnel.

It was the first time that a miniplay was made with the participation of real life actors from the Special Task Force (STF).

The story revolving around a police officer who returns from the terrorist captivity after his sealed coffin was sent home and the dramatic twists it follows is the main plot of 'Uththamachara'.

The one episode teleplay filmed in the areas in and around Panama, Shasthrawail, Pottuvil, Arugam Bay and Lahugala was included in the cast comprising Senior Superintendent of Police Ranjith Perera and many security personnel attached to the STF.

"Uththamachara is a collective effort by all STF personnel and if not for their dedication the miniplay would not have been a reality," said Charith Kiriella speaking to TV Times about his direction. He expressed his sincere thanks to Commanding Officer, Nimal Lewke and all the officers attached to the STF.

'Uththamachara' depicts heavy war scenes and also pathetic scenes relating to the funeral of security personnel. Amongst others in the main cast are Keerthi Ranjith Peiries, Ranjith Rubasinghe, Pawara Wenura Perera, Nethra Nanayakkara, Swarna Ranasinghe, Sanet Dikkumbura, Ravindra Deeptha and Warshakone Bandara.

Screenplay written by Ranjith Jayasuriya, art director Nethra Nanayakkara and Chaminda Biyanwila, camera direction by Mervin Jayawardena and production executive is Suranga Kiriella. Music handled by Gratien Ananda 'Uththamachara' director Charith Kiriella is assisted by Sanjaya Bandara and Wasantha Hatharasinghe.
