Malik Samarawickrema has decided to call it a day from all rugby promotional work.

An old Royalist, he has served the game for over 40 years and contributed much for rugby on and off the field. Besides rugby administration, Malik played for Royal, CR and FC and Sri Lanka.

A rugby brain who played with the likes of Jagath Fernando, Indrajith Coomeraswamy for the CR and FC etc, he has helped many less affluent players to go places in life.

Today if Kandy SC is something,its is thanks to Samarawickrema. He stared the revival of Kandy rugby when it was in the doldrums. He had a vision to make it more professional be it the players on the administration. According to sources he has decided to make way for the others to continue his work. The same source said, Malik has given a new sight to our eyes, new hearing to our ears.

The Singer – SriLankan Airlines, International rugby 7s organized by Kandy SC, has come to stay since its inception. It has gained IRB recognition, Put Sri Lanka rugby in the international rugby map.
