Dance to Chinthi’ ‘Sokeri’

By Sanath Weerasuriya

If someone asks, what is currently the most popular Sinhala new wave song, without any hesitation I would say 'Sokari'.

Sokeri is the most frequently aired song on TV and radio at the moment and is one of the hit songs from the album 'Chinthy'.

'Chinthy' is the debut album of Chinthy Fernando of Negombo, who is an extremely talented musician.

An old boy of Maris Stella College, Chinty learnt his basics from his mother. After finishing his education at Maris Stella, he joined Boxhill University in Australia to study 'Sound Engineering', where he mastered 'studio recording and sound engineering'.

'My mother is a music teacher and I learned my ABCs in music from her. Piano and classical music are the base of the music knowledge, I have at present. I am really grateful to my mother for giving me the correct guidance' he said.
'Chinthy' is the maiden production of 'Kronik Entertainment', the self owned music label of Chinthy Fernando.

'Kronik’ is my own record label and I did all my recording in my own studio 'Attic'. I call it Attic, as I transformed our attic into a modern recording studio. All the songs in 'Chinthy' were played live and recorded at this studio by me' he added.

'Chinthy' comprises fifteen songs and three of its songs became instant hits. 'Sokari', 'Nari' and 'Chanchalai' are now being played regularly over radio and TV.

Chinthy's latest project is a video production of his new song 'Wannamen Banda Ale' featuring Iraj.

'Wannamen Banda Ale' is its official launch will be held in India towards the latter part of next month.' He said.

Four of his songs from 'Chinthy' album - 'Sokari', 'Nari', 'Chanchalai' and 'Ma Jeevithe' are with visuals and the most popular of them is 'Sokeri'

'Chinthy' album is marketed by M Entertainment.
