‘Munich’ massacre recreated at MC
Steven Speilberg's much awaited Oscar nominated 'Munich' depicting the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympic Village in Munich, Germany and the series of killings by the Palestinians terrorists that followed, is now being screened at Majestic Cinema in Colombo.

Nominated for the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing and the Best Original Score at the Academy awards at 2006 Oscars and nominated for the Best Director and the Best Screenplay at Golden Globe

During the 1972 Olympic Games in Munch 11 Israeli athletes were taken as hostages and murdered by a Palestinian Terrorist group known as 'Black September'.

In retaliation, the Israel government recruits a group of Mossad agents to track down and kill those responsible for the attack. The leader assigned for the task is Avner played by Eric Bana (Troy, Black Hawk Down and The Hulk) the Israeli agent whose task is to hunt and kill those responsible for the Munich killings.

He leads a multi-national team of Jews, played by Daniel Craig, Ciarán Hinds, Mathieu Kassovitz and Hanns Zischler. They plan a travel to Western Europe, and then killing their foes.

In their traval, they make mistakes and are clearly in over their head, but this is what makes the story so effective. ‘Munich' brings a story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Steven Spielberg's 'Inspired by Real Events' narrative is based on a number of sources, including the recollections of some who participated in the events themselves.

Spielberg tackles a controversial subject masterfully - with a highly articulate tale that understands that there are two sides to the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, but also makes it clear that the acts of murder perpetrated by both sides were atrocious and reprehensible crimes.

Eric Bana the rising Australian star gives a brilliant performance as the leader of the group - at the same time dedicated and conflicted, murderous and benevolent.

Some of Spielberg's scenes are as exciting as they are harrowing, and had me on the edge of my seat. Munich doesn't shy away from violence or (more significantly) its consequences, and is in fact at times quite harrowing.
The shooting and killing the athletes and some of the avenging killing and bomb attacks carry the most gruesome murder scenes with Hitchcockian effectiveness.

Other in the cast include, Geoffrey Rush, Roy Avigdori, Ziad Adwan, Sam Feuer, Haguy Wigdor, Marie-Josée Croze, Ayelet Zorer, Jean Smart, Lynn Cohen, Assi Cohen, Ossie Beck, Sharon Alexander, Dov Reiser, Kurt Russell and Rana Varbin.

World acclaimed director's 164 minutes narration based on one of the brutal incidents in the world history is a must see. The Dream Work movie imported here by Ceylon Entertainments Limited, CEL. The Colombo show times are at 10.30 am, 3.00 pm and 7.00 pm daily.
