Sea giant victim of saw dust
A gentle giant of the sea was tragically found dead on the Moratuwa beach yesterday and some residents believe pollution of the beach with saw dust might have killed mighty 20-foot whale.

Residents said the whale was alive when it came ashore off Egoda Uyana and there were no external injuries. Regular deaths of whales near the coastlines in Sri Lanka have been an unsolved mystery for the past few years. A few months ago, a carcass of a whale was found in the same area.

However, NARA's Marine Biologist Dr. Champa Amarasiri said she did not believe that saw dust was the cause the death. "According to our officers who visited the scene, it was a small sperm whale. We did not find the clear cause of the death but I believe that it could be due to an accident," she said.
