    1. King Manavamma carried on a successful rule. He ruled righteously, doing a lot of meritorious deeds. He passed away in 718 AD. He was succeeded by his son.

    March 19, 1833 signifies the first signs of representative government in Sri Lanka, then known as Ceylon. It was on this day that two councils - the Legislative Council and the Executive Council - were established. The Governor at the time was Sir Robert Wilmot Horton (1831-37).

    The Colombo District of the Sri Lanka Girl Guide Association celebrated Thinking Day - the joint birthday of the Founders, Lord and Lady Baden Powell - which falls on February 22.
