Hearts afire
By Marisa de Silva
Still pondering over what to get your Valentine this year? Might I suggest flowers, chocolates, jewellery, perfume, etc. Too mundane I hear you say? Hmm… I have little choice, but to agree. So I guess we’re back at square one huh? Or are we…

Aroused your curiosity? Well, what if I were to tell you that this Valentine’s Day, not only could you make your own day the most memorable ever, but also touch the lives of many less fortunate children by giving them a lifetime of memories. Allow me to elaborate.

The Naughty Hearts Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance at The Golden Mile, on February 14, is going to be a fusion of romance, partying and caring. For every ‘couple’s ticket’ sold (Rs. 4000 per couple), Rs. 200 will be donated to a special fund, in aid of some of the less fortunate children living along the Mount Lavinia beach area. “The proceeds of this fund will be utilised to give these children a chance to enjoy some of the many things in life that we have long taken for granted,” says the Event Coordinator, Vivek Jayasuriya.

Naughty Hearts, although a Valentine’s Day bash, is not exclusively for those “in love,” says Vivek, adding that many workplaces had approached him and worked out special deals for their respective groups. For example, every Sri Lankan Airlines staff couple (where either party is a staffer) is entitled to a bottle of wine on the house, he explains. So, if any other office would like to organise a similar package, it could always be arranged he adds. The romantic evening will be transformed into a beach party after 10.30 p.m. so that everyone can just let loose and party all night long, says Vivek!

However, the uniqueness of the evening can be best experienced from atop one of the two towers of The Golden Mile, where you can be guaranteed absolute privacy whilst at the same time having a ‘bird’s eye view’ of all the proceedings down below. The North and South Towers, adorned completely with roses or candles respectively, and scenically situated overlooking the magnificent ocean, is a sight well worth beholding! However, as they say “everything has its price,” so if you want it bad enough, all you have to do is bid for it, says Vivek. As the ‘D-Day’ (closing date on February 13) looms ahead, the bidding seems to have increased momentum… so you just might need to make a run for it!

The two lucky couples will be waited on hand and foot, and will find themselves being spoilt rotten in every possible way conceivable! If it’s a personal butler, a feast fit for a king, the most romantic atmosphere, the most indulgent living that only a 24-hour stay in a top-notch suite at the Mount Lavinia Hotel can provide, and luxury transport from the hotel to the restaurant and back, you’re looking for, then this is so the tailor-made night for you!

A fashion show presented by Limited Edition will definitely take your breath away, as six of Sri Lanka’s top models (including an international model) take to the catwalk, sporting the unique designs under the Limited Edition label, says Vivek. Naughty competitions, unbelievable prizes and groovy music provided by Outburst, and popular local hot-spot DJs Upul, Prasad, Ben and Chandana will make the night’s memories last a lifetime! Prizes include air tickets for two, weekends for two at star class hotels, dinner for two vouchers at The Golden Mile and cute, cuddly teddy-bears, he adds.

The compere for the evening will be Michael, formerly a DJ at TNL Radio.
Romantic or fun shots up on a horse and carriage too, will add to the night’s excitement, says Vivek. There will also be the services of an in-house photographer at the guests’ disposal, to capture any special moments, on request, he adds.

For more details or to place a bid for a tower contact the organisers on 077-3295761, and listen in to TNL Radio to find out how to win tickets for the dinner dance. Winners will be announced on TNL Radio.

Sponsors for the event are Labels (Smirnoff), Noritake, Carlsberg, Dilshey’s and Hotel Lady Hill – Galle. Tickets will be available at Dilshey’s – Kollupitiya, Limited Edition – Crescat and The Golden Mile – Mount Lavinia. So come February 14 this year, keep in mind that your memorable night can help build a lifetime full of memories for others…
