Premier League Cricket
Bloomfield bite the dust
By M. Shamil Amit
Panadura made mighty Bloomfield eat humble pie when they crushed them by seven wickets in their inter-club Premier League cricket encounter concluded at Reid Avenue yesterday. The match was completed just a few minutes after lunch with Panadura chasing a target of 205 after resuming their overnight score of 66 for 2. They reached the winning score with minimum effort.

Panadura dominated play from day one when they bowled out their opponents for 102 and put them under pressure. The writing was on the wall for the home team though fielding more experienced and better players, they were not given to settle down by the Panadura boys.

It was Dilruwan Perera’s unbeaten ton inclusive of nine boundaries and a six who was involved in two useful partnerships - one for the third wicket of 67 runs with Nadeera Nawela and the other an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 84 - run stand with Sunendra Kumara that gave them the victory.

Meanwhile there were three other outright wins with Moors overcoming Singha SC Ambalangoda by five wickets at Braybrooke Place, BRC beating Tamil Union at the P. Sara Stadium and debutantes Badureliya CC crushing Galle CC by identical margins: an innings and 32 runs at R. Premadasa Stadium. All these matches were concluded a few minutes after lunch.
