The demise of B. U. Siness
The death is announced of B. U. SINESS, dearly beloved son of late John Bernard Issac Zealous (JBIZ) and Can’t Commit-to Core-values (CCC) and the loving husband of Conflicts Of Interest, beloved father of Agency Commission, Bookie Business, Import and Sell, High Margin Finance, Under Invoicing and Margins Left Overseas and the grandfather of Business without Good Governance, Wealth without Work, Pleasure without Conscience and Knowledge without Character and brother of Komis Kakka, Politicians for Favours, Networks for Profit, and Kalu Kada Mudalai and son in law of No Ethics and No Social Responsibility.

Died under tragic circumstances due to over indulgence, ignoring the emerging security threats and the socio-economic issues of the nation, playing politcs, placing self interests before the nation’s and ignoring civil society needs and engaging in environmental degradation. The private funeral took place with flowers and flowery praise in the presence of distiguished friends and network partners..

The days of glory of B. U. Siness, his election as the “Entreprenur of the Year” and the government contracts he secured using friends in high positions (never resorting to bribery and corruption but by sharing his gains with facilitators) were recounted at the funeral. The extent of the wealth accumulated locally and abroad and the bank debts defaulted, with favours from political buddies and influential cronies were hailed as indelible marks of success.

With much pride a collegue in business recounted the last week of indulgence making sure that the hampers had been delivered to the public servants who helped with unsavoury business exploits. He had ignored an urgent call from a chamber colleague to use his influence with the high ups to expeditiously arrest the deteriorating security sittuation and prevent the nation plunging back to a crippling war, with the loss of life and enormous damage to the economy and people. He set out to the latest six star resort, to engage in a session of wine, women and song and entertain friends in high places who helped him in the year about to end.

He returned on the Christmas morning to accompany the family to church and place a hundred rupees in the collection box in recognition of the year of blessing. A grand Christmas lunch with the family was follwed by a big booze and equally sumptous late night dinner with friends. On Boxing Day, as the nation mourned the first anniversary of its worst ever tragedy, he set out again to continue to play host to his contacts in trade. He did not fail later in the week to engage with his Rotary colleagues, the fellowship and service to community, using money collected from clubs overseas.

With booze and snacks he and his cronies analysed and argued about the impending national crises, but failed to agree that the priority of the day was to “achieve a negotiated peace and conflict settlement without war and the division of the country".

They were not realistic to rationalize that the elusive man in the north, not only made war at his whim and fancy, but also decided on who rules the nation, the budget deficit, the exchange rate, the sovereign rating, inflation, tourist arrivals, shipping and export performance and infact had a firm control over the whole socio-economy and continuing poverty of the nation’s people. A plea to facilitate “a majority community and business sector-led solution that assures peace and stabilty, with them making more than their fair share of concessions in reaching an acceptable and face saving alternative for all parties to the dispute to agree to work together with magnanimity and willingness to forget the past, looking ahead and placing the nation and its people first” was flatly rejected by a minority.

They held this view due to personal belief, party positions, personal interests. They supported action via a direct war or covert operations to remove the principal protagonists in the north, committing that the new army leadership was capable of a decisive victory over the enemy.

B. U. Siness’ looking forward to an equally prosperous 2006, with the prospects of war supplies leveraged agency commissions in addition, enjoyed a full night of merry making seeing the year end. He had his fair share of superior varieties of liquor accmpanied by escargot, wine fed baby veal and pink salmon, baby carrots and new potatoes flown in from France and rounded it up with Egg Hoppers and Kotthu Roti for breakfast before driving into the sea at high speed in his Mercedes Sports car, later to be declared dead by drowning.
At least he is spared the risks about to crystalyze on business and society in 2006 Good-night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest! (Horatio, V.ii)
