Direct
confrontation in Jaffna yesterday
Four bodies of LTTE cadres along with pistols and a grenade launcher
were recovered after a fire fight between troops and the Tigers
close to the Jaffna fort yesterday. The rebels had attempted to
ambush an army officer and a
soldier
on duty by opening fire around 6 p.m. when troop retaliated killing
four guerrillas, military spokesman Prasad Samarasinghe said. He
said the officer had sustained minor injuries but the soldier had
been wounded in the chest and was rushed to the Palaly hospital.
Troops
were combing the area and had launched an extensive search operation,
Brig. Samarasinghe said.
