Debate set on policy speech

Parliament will debate the policy statement made by President Mahinda Rajapakse to the Legislature on December 7, one day before the government presents its new Budget.

The debate is being held following a request by the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) at a party leaders meeting held last week to allow a debate on the President’s statement made to Parliament last Friday.

Meanwhile, at the same meeting UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya said that as the JVP was supporting the government, time for the debate on the Appropriation Bill for the JVP MPs should be give from the time allocated from the Government and not from the Opposition.
