By Ishani Ranasinghe
Two semi finals – Colombo and Kandy, a record number of participants and now the finals are just days away. Over the years Talent Search has drawn in an immense amount of interest by so many youngsters that it inevitably became one of the must-go events in the social calendar. Tickets were sold out days ahead… and I am yet to go for a Talent Search final where the hall was not jam packed, with people standing outside waiting to get in… Such is the popularity of the competition.

Three months ago, once again the Interact Club of Royal College went about organising Talent Search, which has been dubbed The Interact Grammys. Over the years Talent Search has grown to become one event that has received recognition in the music community here in Sri Lanka. This competition has unearthed an abundance of vocal, dance and musical talent of Sri Lankan youth.

A contest of song, music and dance… this has become a forum where all Interactors and non-Interactors islandwide participate, and display their talents that are yet to be discovered.

Since its inception by The Interact Club of Royal College, Talent Search has been an annual project that has always succeeded in bringing out the talent of Interactors from all over the country. The year 2001 saw the participation of non-Interactors in this event for the first time. This will definitely give the necessary encouragement and the opportunity to students of schools without Interact Clubs to display their talent at such a prominent event.

Many youngsters have much talent in them that is yet to be exposed, identified and recognised. Unfortuna-tely there is a lack of events such as Talent Search, which gives these youngsters the opportunity to display their talent, and give them a start in pursuing their dreams. The increasing numbers of participants over the past years have confirmed this fact.

This year Talent Search is woven around the theme ‘The birthplace of stars,’ which will be held on a larger scale, as they have now switched venues and plan on having it at the BMICH.

This will be their breakthrough year, with the project now being expanded with the needed finances coming through. This resulted in them opting to expand this project, maintaining the recognition it has gained over the years.
The guest performances scheduled to perform are Hollow Point Halo, Siri Bora and an instrumental performance by a group of Royalists. Along with them, the finalists of the competition will also be performing at the event.

Performing at the finals will be:
Dance – Visakha Vidyalaya and Bishop’s College
Instrumental – Trinity College – Kandy
Rap – Nalanda Col-lege
Group Singing – St. Joseph’s College, Trinity College and Bishop’s College
Solo – Holy Family Convent, Bishop’s College and Colombo International
Band – British School – Colombo, St. Joseph’s College and St. Peter’s College
It is definitely one of the most looked-forward-to events on the Interact calendar of District 3220. Over the years, it has lived up to its expectations in bringing out electrifying artistes such as Bathiya and Santhush, The Creators, Ranidu Lankage, Ashanthi and Stigmata, etc.

As the stage lights up on November 2, at the BMICH, those of you who make their way there can witness some fantastic talent on display, as the finalists of Talent Search 2005 take the stage at 6.30 p.m.
