By Sanath Weerasuriya
Director Bennett Ratnayake's latest award winning film 'Sulanga' is now being screened at the CEL Circuit including Regal, Colombo. 'Sulanga' represented Sri Lanka and won six awards at the ‘Calcutta International Film festival’, ‘Montreal IFF’ and ‘Rio International Film Festival’ in Brazil.

The star studded 'Sulanga' cast includes Sanath Gunathilake, Dilhani Ekanayake, Sathya Erandhathi Rathnayake, Semini Iddamalgoda, Palitha Silva, Chandani Seneviratne, Rangana Premaratne, Roger Seneviratne and Sriyani Amerasena.

'Sulanga' depicts a story of a traditional family problem, which is drawn to a court of law. The Director, script writer Bennett Rathnayake of 'Aswesuma' fame said his new creation emphasised more on scenes from the court of law, which narrates the version of the character's lives.

A case has come before the family court. Krishanthi is filing for a divorce from her husband Senarathne, a university professor, whom she met and married when she was an undergraduate student. She is pregnant with their second child. Krishanthi accuses her husband of having an affair with Kumari, a younger woman.

Senarathne claims she has misunderstood the whole situation and pleads with her to keep the family together. Kumari is from a poor rural family. Her mother struggled to bring her up in a way that Kumari could escape from the poverty she was born into.

Giving evidence and under cross-examination, each one of them narrates their version of their life's search for happiness. They promise to tell the truth but each one's truth is different. Truth means one thing in a Court of Law. But what is Truth when it comes before the Court of the Heart?

The technical crew comprises Cinematographer Biju Vishvanath, camera assistants K.Ravi and K.S.Palani. Nanda Malani sings to the music created by Rohana Weerasinghe. Ravindra Guruge edited the film.
