He was a popular winner and celebrated like hell. Coming 2nd was Zhuang Lizhou a tall gangling Chinese who hits a helluva long ball. A 10 handicapper he played good golf in Beijing before he arrived in Sri Lanka. He is a popular regular who claims he has improved his game and his style and now looks forward to picking a few trophies. Elmo de Silva, Nirmal Piyaratne, Simon Northcot and Edward Higgs messed around in distress.

“C” Division
Prashan Fernando was the most outstanding player through the DHL Competition. A 22 handicapper cracking 49 magical points can only happen with the assistance of the omnipotent. However, a couple of guys who witnessed a major part of the performance claim that Prashan has style and aptitude and now we happily look forward to repeat achievements so we can give deserved applause. He won comfortably beating another excellent score of 45 points coming from the club heads of S.R. Subramaniam.

Seniors
Two exceptionally pleasant personalities and extremely popular members Norman Chandraratne and Sugath Weeraratne moved into a titanic struggle for survival. Both classy seniors they were warmly applauded at the 19th when it was announced that Weeraratne beat Chandraratne 37 to 36.

Ladies
The Silva twins were thick in the battle. Both equally good, Usha de Silva moved past Anusha Senadhira with a one point lead. Both celebrated at the 19th with their usual happy gang.

Gymkhana Events
Joe Perera also known as the ‘Old Man River’ got himself jet propelled to swipe a 300 yard drive off the 8th tee and win the longest drive award and collect his trophy from Romesh David. Smart M.L. Hirdaramani was well balanced and calculating to stop 8” from the pin on the 9th and he was rewarded. DHL could not hide anything from Sproule. Stylish left hander Michael Sproule was exceptionally clever to pick the best scores on 6 Hidden Holes. He pranced in jubilation, knocked a few beers in merriment and almost sang the victory song on the way to collect his trophy from Roger Pichard.

Magical Shot
Norman Gunawardena got together with his pet 6 Iron on the 16th tee and placed the icing on the cake with a magical swing and an almighty chosen shot which gleefully responded by creeping into the hole soon after impact on the green. Gunawardena jumped for joy, gifted his caddie lavishly and moved into the Clubhouse to get locked in the pride of France for an elastic hour at the 19th. Thanks to DHL the mighty pleasure that followed all evening and all night was quite intoxicating.
