Enough work to go around
Deputy Minister of Mahaweli and River Basin Development Premalal Jayasekera resigned from his post on Wednesday saying lack of co-operation by officials was blocking him from carrying on with his work. On the other hand the Minister-in-charge of the subject Maithripala Sirisena had a problem of a different sort.

He sent in his resignation from the post of the Leader of the House to the President on the same day. His reason for wanting to quit was he had too much work on his hands. Maybe he can delegate some to his deputy and then everyone would have enough work to go around.

‘CBK’ a best seller?
There was many a person lining up to get the biography of President Chandrika Kumaratunga autographed by her when the book ‘CBK’ was launched last week. Leading the way was Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse who handed over the book to her for her signature. She quickly signed and returned it and then it was the turn of her brother Tourism Minister Anura Bandaranaike.
This copy she took much longer to autograph before returning it. This was followed by many others having their copy of the Rs.5, 000 each book signed by Her Excellency.

Going by the sales on the day of the launch, the book should be a best seller.
However when a scribe visited a book shop in Colombo and asked the sales person how sales were of the book, he quipped that except for MPs and ministers, not many others were buying it. Not surprising given that fact that only politicians will be able to afford a book at that price. How many of them will actually read the book is another question.

Uncertain future for top man
There have been many changes taking place in the Rupavahini Corporation after the departure of Mangala Samaraweera as Media Minister. The services of three officials including an Additional Director General of News have been terminated.

All three had been employed on the recommendations of the present Chairman and had enjoyed salaries of over Rs. 60,000 each in addition to other perks such as official vehicles, etc. Insiders say that the big man is now uncertain of his future with the sudden departure of three of his close confidantes.
