Rohan
clears dope hurdle
It is learned that the dope Test on controversial athlete Rohan
Pradeep has been found negative after two syringes were found in
a hotel room that he hired and not paid during the Athletic Grand
Prix in Thailand. However it is also reported that the Asian Athletic
Federation has requested the local authorities to take action against
this athlete according to IAAF code of conduct for his misdemeanor
but the prize money of appx. Rs.500,000 has not been released as
yet.
Meanwhile
three new marks were established on the second day of the Senior
National Championships held at the Sugathadasa Stadium, yesterday.
The first for the day came in the women’s pole vault event
when N.V. Hettiarachchi representing the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic
Association cleared a distance of 2.15metres in this event which
was held only for the second time. This is considered a new Sri
Lanka mark.
The
second place in this event was taken by J.M. Ishara Udayangi also
of the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association. The second record
for the day was a new meet record. This came in the men’s
triple jump with S.D.C. Sampath Weerasinghe of the Srilak Athletic
Club clearing a distance of 15.95 metres. The second place in this
event went to H.M.G. Sameera of the Sri Lanka Air Force while the
third place was taken by J.A.N.K. Appuhamy of the Sri Lanka Navy.
The second and the third in this event cleared distances of 15.86
and 15.83metres respectively.Woman soldier D.L. Nadika Lakmali also
made her presence felt when she set a new meet record in the Javelin
throw. Lakmali threw a distance of 54.00metres with K.A.M.P. Silva
of the Sri Lanka navy taking the second place with a distance of
53.15metres. The third place went to E.G.C.J.K. Gunawardena of the
Kegalle DAA who cleared a distance of 42.04metres.
Unattached
K.H.N. Damayanthi won the 2000metre women’s steeple chase
with a timing of 7 minutes 25.79 seconds. K.M.A.K. Rathnayake and
L.S.S. Premaratne of Srilak Athletic Club took the second and third
places with respective timings of 7minutes 38.70-seconds and 7 minutes
50.05 seconds.
Indika Bandara also of the Srilak Athletic Club won the men’s
3000metres steeple chase event with his time of 9 minutes 03.58
seconds. J.G.S. Ranjith of the Sri Lanka Navy took the second place
in this event with a time of 9minutes 05.68 seconds. H.A.V.P. Hangarapitiya
of the Sri Lanka Air Force came third as he crossed the mark with
a time of 9minutes 06.61 seconds. |
