over 2 weeks has moved successfully so far at the R.C.G.C.

Medal
In the first event for the Calcutta Medal Binupa Wijesinghe a sharp
teenager played excellent golf to capture the prestigious Medal.
Seasoned campaigner and classy Senior Bandula Weerasinghe was beaten
by a slender margin came 2nd.
Victoria
Cup
This handsome trophy makes itself available to the player with the
best net scores over rounds one and three. Mark Green comparatively
new at the Ridgeways played impressively to score 139 to tie with
Binupa Wijesinghe and get past him with a better back nine and collect
the prestigious trophy. Green was a popular winner judging from
the rush there was to congratulate him. Green has excellent prospects
of chasing the Squadron Cup successfully through 4 rounds.

Medal
Mithun Perera the prodigy is well away with 213 points pushing back
Binupa Wijesinghe on 218 & Alain Gyi on a poor 227. All this
is for over 3 rounds and one important round is yet to go. Golf
the unpredictable game can cause alarming upsets.

Three
No Trophy but the glory of winning moved into Zen Dharmaratne a
smashing teenager who shows much evidence of promise. He needs a
trifle more weight and a wag was heard to say "Less coaching
from his devoted Dad". At the moment he is an excellent prospect
who could join Mithun Perera & Binupa Wijesinghe in their stables.

is named after the living legend Tiger Woods and is a beautiful
precise work of art. Imported by Colombo Jewellery Stores their
Chief Executive "Wasim" Akram Cassim happily sponsors
a separate event extravagantly. The promotion is handled by Leo
Burnet whose Public relations Champion is Azhara Aziz. Smart and
stylish her promotional plan so far is absolute.
Ridgeways
The foul weather has caused constraints and with the course taking
a massive beating, Joe Prera has not been able to produce good standards.
Some fairways are unkempt and a few greens remain untrue.
Finally
The competition for the Pride of Switzerland Tag Heurer took place
yesterday independently for 4 Divisions and a special award to the
overall winner. |
