‘Yonggary’: A Korean Godzilla
The Korean-American monster movie Yonggary now being screened at the Magestic cinema Colombo. Godzilla kind sci-fi monster movie directed by Shim Hyeong-Rae starring Harrison Young, Richard B. Livingston, Dona Philipson is a story of scientists against monsters.

Aliens make monsters named Yonggary in Alps from their fossil by green beams. But, scientists persuade Yonggary to their friends and fight against Siker, another monster from aliens, with Yonggary.An abandoned mine in the northern part of the Urals. Doctor Kambel, having ambition to obtain wealth and fame with fossils finds that a huge fossil of dinosaur 50 times larger than Tyrannosaur is buried near the mine.

He sets out to excavate the mine with his attractive assistant, Holy. When their excavation is almost completed, a great green light from above hits the fossil, Yongary with thunder and lightning.

Then Yongary is restored to life. It flies to L.A. and destroys the city. In the meantime, the missing Doctor Huze discovers and deciphers prophecy on Yonggary with Holy. They find that an alien controls Yonggary. Doctor Huze attacks Yongary using secrets on prophecy and makes it regain its good nature. Aliens reattacks the city with a new monster in this time...

South Korean born director made a number of movies to his credit and In Cannes Film Festival 1999, 'Canal Plus' TV introduced Yonggary as one of the best commercial film in Cannes Film Market of that year.
