Sub Inspector shot dead in Batticaloa
Jude Thiyagarajah (42), a Sub Inspector attached to the Batticaloa Police Station was shot dead allegedly by a Tiger guerrilla pistol gang yesterday. Police said the incident occurred between the Police Station and Lake Road.

The SI had been riding a cycle and was heading home when the incident occurred. Meanwhile, three homeguards have been abducted by the LTTE and "remanded" till June 10 by an LTTE "court".

The homeguards had been abducted on Tuesday night at Tikkodai near the 39th colony in the Poorathivu divisional secretary area for allegedly straying into an area controlled by the rebels.

SLMM Acting Chief Hagrup Haukland told The Sunday Times that according to information, only one was a homeguard and the other two civilians and the SLMM was trying to work out their release.
