Story of ‘Sanda Mudunata’
Veena Menon is a famous actress in Sri Lankan cinema. She meets with a mysterious accident, which not only confined her to a wheel chair, but also brings her promising career to an end. With her acting career shattered she become a recluse refusing to leave her house.

Her only son Pathum was brought up in a huge house and he was never allowed to interact with the outside world. Pathum’s father died when the boy was 6 years old. At that time his mother was busy with her film career and Rosie the faithful old servant looked after him. His only friend was Samantha, daughter of Veena’s best friend, Mary. Pathum was in a world where he did not know the difference between reality and fantasy as a result.

Mary is the lifelong friend of Veena’s. When her idol Veena’s film career ended as a failure she decided to remain with Veena. She gave all her time to Veena and often neglected the needs of her daughter Samantha. Samantha is a strong-minded girl. She is the only one who truly understands Pathum. She defends Pathum against Veena and Mary. Although she has a deep love for Pathum she is unable to express her feelings.

Nirmala is the daughter of famous film director, Mahinda Peiris. Veena acted in a number of his films and helped him build his career as a director. As the time went by Mahinda Peiris abandoned Veena and opted for new actresses and this put an end to the relationship between them.

Martin-Tom du du is a mentally disturbed lonely man. His son left him many years ago to join the army and since then he searches for him in the railway station waiting for his return. Martin meets Pathum in the railway station and they build up a close relationship with each other.

The story revolves around the mysterious kidnapping of Nirmala and how all these characters come together to resolve the mystery. It is a story of love, betrayal, passion, kindness, friendship and forgiveness. It is also the story of life.

The cast in Sanda Mudunata are Veena Jayakody, W. Jayasiri, Menaka Rajapaksha (introducing), Sujani Menaka, Germain Homer, Audry Fernando, Sarath Kulanga, Chandra Kaluarachchi Piorina Fernando, Seetha Kumari, Y. B. Laman and Vincent Fernando. Child actors Aliosha Pavel, Sandali Welikala and Natasha Neththikumara too have got roles in this miniplay.

Behind the camera, Samy Pavel script, edited, produced and directed the teledrama while Rishan Seraphim joined him in editing and production.
