Youth for international understanding

The annual international understanding project, ‘Interact Cultural Festival’, organised by the Interact Club of D.S. Senanayake College, will be held for the fifth consecutive year, on May 7, at Hotel Galadari, Colombo.

Only ten schools on a first-come-first-serve basis will be allowed to participate in the festival and all clubs will represent a particular country and will have to participate in all three sessions in order to win the Overall Championship.

The three sessions will consist of presentations, a quiz and an entertainment segment. Both the presentations and the quiz are expected to include the culture and lifestyle, current affairs and history, the political arena and any other additional information about the country.

Every school will be given a general knowledge questionnaire at the time of registration and are expected to hand it over prior to the quiz. After the questionnaires are reviewed, the three teams with the highest marks will be announced and they will go into the final round, which will be conducted by the quizmaster.

The finals will consist of three rounds. The first will be history and culture, the second, current affairs and general knowledge and the third, will be international affairs.

Entertainment will be the third session and each item can consist of a maximum of seven participants and they will be allowed to do any of the following events: solo singing, group singing, a skit or any other creative item of entertainment. Through the performance they are expected to highlight the culture or historical background of the selected country.

The overall champion will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs.10,000 along with the challenge shield and every participant will be awarded a participation-certificate.

The objective of the organisers is to create and promote international understanding amongst the youth of today. The day’s proceedings will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The main sponsor for the event will be the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) and the co-sponsors will be Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) and SINWA Holdings.
