30th Musatang Trophy encounter
Thomians all the way
By Shamseer Jaleel
Once again it was the Thomians all the way. At one stage it seemed that Royal were making a come back, when they had the Thomians reeling at 67 for 5, but, they failed miserably as the Thomian 6th wicket pair put on 156 runs and saw them through in the 30th Musatang Trophy encounter at the SSC grounds, yesterday..

The two Thomian batsmen -- Dhanushka Colombage (79) and Ravindra Karunaratne (74) dashed all hopes of a Royal revival as they reached a final total of 259 off 49.5 overs.

Royal in their turn never looked as if they were into it. Only a 5th wicket partnership of 55 between Malinga Maligaspe who made a patient knock of 43 and remained not out at the end. With him was and Dulanjana Wijeratne who scored 24 gave them a glimmer of hope, but that too was short lived as Royal crashed to 148 all out in only 35.3 overs with the Thomian skipper Vijyesh Balasupremanium who captured 3 for 16 putting the lid on a 111 run Thomian win.

Besides the Thomian captain opening bowler Ashan Peiris too chipped in with 2 for 33. With this win the Thomian are now at 13 wins to their credit, but the Royalists still lead the series with 16 wins.

The Last Thomian win came in 2001 under Zakeer Kanaka. Thomians were minus Kaushal Silva and Royal played this game without their skipper Dimitri Siriwardena as they are on duty for the national under 19 team in Pakistan.
