Malani flies high with ‘Sarisara Lihini’

The seventh directorial venture of veteran actress Malani Fonseka 'Sarisara Lihini' will be telecast every Friday at 8.35 pm belt on Rupavahini channel. The miniplay a Sri Lankan-England joint production, is filmed in the locations in both Sri Lanka and England and the maiden episode will be telecast on February 25.

The teledrama with a different theme depicts the present Sri Lankan political system and the hidden sides of the politicians which is full of vice and malice. While Malani the leading actress in Sri Lankan cinema comes with a star class performance as a politician (Janaki Menike), Robin Fernando, Buddhika Jayaratne, Tharindu Wijesinghe, Kumara Karunaratne, Bu-ddadasa Vitha-narachchi, Chandika Nanayakkara, Hansini Mendis, Day-asiri Hettiarachchi, Premadasa Vithanage and Vindaya Madu-shanki joins her for the main cast. Depicting a corrupt politician Srimal Sathyajith Wedisinghe plays opposite Malani.

Directing Sarisara Lihini Malani also introduces number of newcomers to teledrama scene and most of them are Sri Lankans residing in England. Produced by Leelani Perera, the Sri Lankans joining for the cast from England are Vidush Athauda, Varuni Perera, Sumudu Kumari Godagama, Shantha Godagama and Natasha Megakan.

Hailing from an elite family, Janaki Menike is well-respected as a politician in the area. Her father was a politician who was popular for his gentlemen politics and this had an effect on the daughter too. Janaki's sister Leelani lives in England with her husband, a doctor and she is concerned about Janaki.

Following the footsteps of her father, Janaki wins the respect and hearts of the people in the area. But using the influence, Janaki's husband, Bandara squanders her money and gets involved in number of illegal activities. Giving up studies, their son Sanjeewa too lives as a playboy just like his father. But Sandani, the daughter of Janaki and Bandara is doing well in her studies and she is reading for a degree in the university.

Discouraged with the behaviour of husband and the son, Janaki decides to give up politics but her husband objects this. But the party too opposes Janaki's decision and she is invited to join the national list.

However enraged by Janaki's behaviour her husband Bandara prevents her from a getting a seat from the national list. For this he joins with Danthanarayana, another leading politician in Janaki's party and he makes a plan to prevent her from a getting a seat from the national list. Danthanarayana is a politician who uses his influence for many illegal activities.

Failing in their plans from preventing Janaki getting a seat from the National list, Bandara decides to murder her. This time he joins with his mistress Nilanthi and Danthanareanaya who also waiting to get rid of Janaki due to her popularity among the voters supports them. At this stage Bandara, Janaki's husband is jailed with a murder charge. And at the same time Janaki's son Sanjeewa too suddenly disappears.

Meanwhile Sandani meets Banu, a student who is involved in leftist politics in the university. But Janaki vehemently objects this and decides to send her daughter away from Sri Lanka. Sandani is sent to England to live with her aunt Leelani. And during this period a riots starts in the universities and many students leave Sri Lanka in fear of their lives and Banu too joins them.

Will Bandara's ploy to murder his wife Janaki succeed What happens to Sanjeewa? Will Sandani and Janaki will ever meet again? All this will be answered at the end of 25th episode of Sarisara Lihini. Scripted by Leel Ananda Gajanayake, the camera is handled by Daya Suriyarachchi and Vasitha Samaranayake and Sahan Sithijaya assist Malani in direction.
