‘Samantha’: First tsunami based film
"Samantha" the very first film to be made on the December 26 tsunami, started production last week
"Samantha-Tsunamiye ek kathavak" is directed by Mario Jayatunga.

The muhurath ceremony was held at the Colombo Plaza last week and the team moved to Hikkaduwa, Kahawa and Telwatta area for the location shooting, where the major part of the film is to be shot.

The story is based on a tsunami survivor, Samantha and the challenges she is to face in life after the disaster. Samantha's role will be played by Gangu Roshana. She is a new face in the film scene. H.R. Perera, Suresh Gamage, Sureni Senarath and Premila Kuruppu star in this film.

'I do not use any live footage of the tragedy' said Director Mario. 'All I want to emphasise is the life after tsunami, how the people face reality. Samantha is a survivor with no parents, brothers and sisters

Left all alone in the world, she understands the situation' he explained. This is his seventh directorial venture after almost three and half years of silence. Neela Wickremasinghe sings the theme song.
