‘Checkers’ : Newest hot spot for entertainment, wine and dining

Checkers the newest restaurant and pub, which has come up at 195 Castle Street, is set to become a hot spot for dining and entertainment as it has many specialties which the management expects to be a crowd puller.

According to the Manager Lal Matharage the pub is opened all seven nights of the week with performance by best bands and DJs in town. These include X-it, Revelation, Wildfire and The Spin Crew.

The Valentine’s Celebrations on Monday, February 14 will be a special day with the band 'Wildfire'. Corrine Almeida will be the guest star.

Pub is open at 6.30pm and it comes alive later in the night with music and dance and go on till the wee hours in the morning. Visitors can also enjoy mostly Western Cuisine in candlelight and it also caters to those who like to have a late dinner. Another specialty is the cheap entrance fees with free entry for ladies.

Castle street has been chosen as it is an area which, is maturing as there are a large number of newly rich people. 'There are a large number of people in Batharamulla and Pelawatthe areas who go to nightclubs and our objective is to attract this crowd' said Lal.

'Large number of foreigners and expats also live in these areas and we want to attract them too' he added. The pub also aims to attract the music fans of the bands performing there.

It is equipped with 20 employees who are trained with experience under their belts. These include those who have worked in leading hotels in Sri Lanka and abroad. Management of Checkers has ambitious plans to develop it more in the future. In that context it hopes to add pool tables in the future.
