CCC junior tourney geared for Dec.13

The inaugural invitation under 14 cricket tournament 2004 for the Nelson Mendis Challenge Trophy for coaching schools and Academies will be held from 13th to 23rd of December this year. The CCC School of Cricket is the host team and is the organizers of the event.

Nelson Mendis who is the chairman of the tournament committee said that the tournament would feature 24 teams, with 73 matches being played in eight grounds. A feature of the tournament would be the participation of six foreign teams from India, Pakistan and Malaysia.

In the preliminary round games awards would be awarded to "Best Batsmen", "Best Bowler" and "Best Fielder", "Man of the match" awards will be added from the quarterfinal stage. The 24 teams have been divided into four respective groups and the top two teams from each group would qualify for the knockout stage.

CCC School of cricket was started in February 1999 and has been in the forefront of Cricket Academies in Sri Lanka during the last six years. The School has participated in many International Cricket Tournaments held in Bangalore, Chennai and Kuala Lumpur with success. The main objective of the tournament organizers is to give exposure to young cricketers, and to encourage, develop, and strengthen cordial relationships among cricketers and officials of participating teams.
