Indian treasure trove
Essentially Indian. That’s what Aryan is all about. Depicting the celebration and traditions of India, this store for all things Indian opens out a world of colour and beauty with exotic sarees, kurthas, traditional jewellery, bindis, bangles and accessories that are one of a kind.

Enchanting in appeal, colour and quality, traditional Indian textiles have a romantic story that dates back several centuries. No other land enjoys such a profusion of creativity, interaction of people and complex structure of colour and vitality. Aryan's handpicked sarees and shalwars come from different villages throughout India. The cotton selection includes poly cottons, silks, Bengal, Ikat, Oriya, Chettinad, Mangalagiri, Venkatagiri and more.

The gorgeous silks from Kanjeevaram, Irakal, Valkallam, Gadwal and Oriya are in various elaborate hand-embroidered designs. The selection of kurthas and kurthis come with traditional embroidery like kantha, mirror, and jute work. The exotic Zardosi worked crepe sarees are displayed under Aryan's Heritage Collection.

Aryan is also a treasure trove of highly detailed forms of India's artistic expressions made from terracotta, paper, metal and other unusual products.

Warli paintings that capture the everyday life of the Warli tribe are sombre in colour and exclusive in design. The depictions on the palm leaf paintings are etched on to canvas made from strips that are sewn together with colour permanently applied to the grooves to create distinct forms and fluid movements.

Perhaps the best known genre of Indian folk paintings is the Mithila paintings from the state of Bihar. These paintings are based on mythological folk themes and tantric symbolism though the central theme is invariably love and fertility. Aryan stocks a range of these for the collector. For those with a taste for the exotically ethnic, a visit to Aryan down Visakha Road in Bambalapitiya is a must.
