Sri Lankan Airlines adopts school
Meepagama Jayanthi Maha Vidyalaya, a school in Kalawana was adopted by Sri Lankan Airlines after the floods in May last year. The Sri Lankan Airlines team laid the foundation stone for a new building, on the 17th of November 2003. Since then, Sri Lankan Airlines has taken various steps to give this school a make over. The new building was declared open on the 19th of May.

The building, which occupies the forest area adjoining the school, is large enough to house up to 200 students. Sri Lankan also provided the furniture and blackboards and built the road leading to the new building.

A fully equipped home science room was provided. The play area was completed with playground equipment for the junior students. Additional toilets were also constructed.

A PA system was provided to simplify the task of having to give a message to the students who are scattered all over the vast woodland area.
