‘Idorayaka Mal Pipila’: A tragic story
When Samel plans and kills Sumanapala, a poor youth in the village who had married the village Avurudhu Kumari, Gnanawathi it becomes a mystery. The killing was done as he was interested in the girl.

The mystery around the murder is the theme of the teledrama ‘Idorayaka Mal Pipila’. The cast comprises Wasanthi Chathurani, W. Jayasiri, Hemasiri Liyanage, Cletus Mendis, Indrajith Navinna, Anula Balathsinghala, Sarath Kothalawala, Roshan Ravindra, Geethal Perera. Ranjith de Silva and Motilal Gunasekara in this teledrama.

A heavy drought sets in bringing an epidemic to the village. Gnanawathi’s only child dies and she is compelled to get the help of the mudalali for the funeral arrangements. Later to repay the debts she had to work at the Mudalali’s shop. When Mudalali declares his love Gnanawathi decides to leave the shop.

Mudalali sets fire to her house. To save her life she runs away in the bullock cart with Siridasa, her late husband’s brother. Samel the hunter notices Gnanawathi living in the jungle, and through him Mudalali comes to know about her.

Samel and Mudalali are determined to take the revenge and pursues them. During the struggle Siridasa shoots Samel. Samel dies and the Mudalali escapes. And more tragedies take place towards the end of ‘Idorayaka Mal Pipila’.

Lyrcis for the theme song and others are by Dr. Ajantha Ranasingha and Lucien Bulathsinghala, Music direction is by Premasiri Kkemadasa. Idorayaka Mal Pipila will be screened from May 17 on Monday at 9.30 pm. On Swarnawahini.
