Final decision on UNF bigwigs after Vesak
The final decision of the UNF on its party bigwigs is to be declared when the party meets next after the Vesak holidays. A decision to revamp the party was taken at the last Parliamentary Group meeting and it has been decided to appoint former minister S.B. Dissanayake as the Secretary of Party Re-organisation with the task of reorganising the party entrusted to him.

Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has been given charge of the Jathika Seveka Sangamaya with Sajith Premadasa entrusted with formulating a National Poverty Alleviation Strategy.

Mr. Dissanayake when contacted said his name was suggested by a majority in the UNF Parliamentary group and he had accepted the challenge of getting the party on the 'proper track'. He said the UNF 'will not try to topple the Alliance' but would support it to carry on governing 'for at least the next one and a half years'.

"They have got a mandate and we will try to help them carry on. We are concerned only about getting our mistakes corrected", Dissanayake said, discarding his usual battle cry against the Alliance.
