Old Royalists retain Chulaka de Zoysa trophy

Old Royalists led by Nalliah Devarajan outplayed the Old Thomians by five wickets in their 11th annual 40 over match to retain the Chulaka de Zoysa Memorial Trophy at the CCC grounds, yesterday. Last year's match too Royal won by an identical margin.

Two sportsman who has done proud for Sri Lanka cricket and rugby - Mahes Rodrigo 'double international' and Anura Tennekoon were the chief guests and gave away the awards.

Andrew Perera top scored for the Old Royalists with 54 while Dhanushka Perera scored 35. T. Jayaprakash finished with figures of 4 for 25.Jayaprakash was well supported by T.Vidanapathirana who bagged 3 for 35.


Today two matches will be played at the same venue. Over 50 match led by Asitha Jayaweera who led the 1971 Royal team and the Sri Lanka under 19 team is here from England. The Old Thomians will be led by Sriyanta Rajapakse which will include Anura Tennekoon, Dr. David Ponniah, Mevan Peiris.

This will be a 20 - over game. The other match will be a an over 40 contest. Shaw Wilson who led Royal in 1964 will play today.

Old Thomians 129 in 34 .3 overs (Asanga Seneviratne 22, Tarindu Fernando 23, T. Vidanapathirana 3 for 23, T. Jayaprakash 4 for 25)

Old Royalists 130 for 5 in 21.3 overs. (Andrew Perera 54, Dhanushka Perera 35 D. Bodiyabaduge 2 for 26).
