Time saves St.Peter’s from defeat

Set a target of 176 to win off 26 overs, the Joes ended at 158/7 off 24 overs to end the "Battle of the Saints" in an exciting draw which has failed to produce a result for the last 26 years.

The last victory for the Peterites was in 1978 and for the Joes won in 1972. Contining from 158/4 the Joes ended their innings at 224/8 off 60 overs. Batting with a deficit of 25 runs the Peterites were not allowed to settle with some fine accurate left arm seam bowling by Chris Fleming who ripped through Peterite batsmen defence by taking 6/47 in a deadly spell. Only Lahiru Pieris (45) and Sheehan Wijetunga (30) and Wickramasekera (29) batted with determination. some guts.
