Jackie wins Menik memorial trophy
The Menik Thurairaja Memorial Trophy Stableford contest at the Ridgeways of the Royal Colombo Golf Club was a highly competitive event with Jackie Dias and I.O. Kim in a keen struggle for supremacy. Dias rushed flamboyance and strong stroke play successfully and came off with an excellent smartly complied 39 points to win the coveted Menik Trophy beating methodical and cautious I.O. Kim by just one slender point. Both played excellent golf and congratulated each other with deep appreciation of a great exhibition of friendship.

The late Menik Thurairaja was quite attractive, stood tall and was much liked by the membership of the Royal Colombo. As Honorary Secretary of the Ladies Section she was identified as a stickler for discipline and she exercised her authority and good manners. She was an enthusiastic and competent golfer, which alerted the Ladies membership to invite her to take the chair as Captain, which she did with finesse through her year of stewardship. She was identified as the best Captain the Ladies Section had in the last 25 years.

Anne Captain as Captain thinks smart and passes on decisions with honesty and good meaning. With her considerable experience she holds the reins admirably and the Ladies section should flourish under her leadership.

The award ceremony at the Ladies Room was simple. Anne Captain addressed the gathering competently and Michelle Mirchandani gave away the Menik Thurairaja Trophy donated by her doting children to Jackie Dias and I.O. Kim picked another special award amidst soft applause.
