Signs of a violent election

A PA supporter was shot and injured last evening in Katuneriya, Nattandiya while returning home after a meeting presided over by former PA parliamentarian Dayashritha Tissera, police said.

The seriously injured victim had been admitted to the Marawila hospital and later transferred to the Ragama hospital. Security in the area has been strengthened following this incident. This is the second reported incident in twenty-four hours from the Puttalam District

In the previous incident two supporters of the Arachchikattuwa Pradeshiya Sabha PA opposition leader were badly injured in an alleged attack by an unidentified group last Friday, police said.

One of the injured had been shot at while the other had been cut with a sword. The attackers allegedly had arrived on motorcycles to the house of the Pradeshiya Sabha member. His house had been damaged during the attack around 7.30 pm.

The two injured had been admitted to the Chilaw Government Hospital. The Pradeshiya Sabha member was unhurt. Security in the Arachchikattuwa area has been beefed up to prevent further violence.
