Anamaduwa to set example
By Hiran Priyankara
Setting an example to those of other districts, former PA parliamentarian for the Puttalam district, D.M. Dassanayake has vowed to ensure free and fair elections in his district.

Addressing the SLFP branch officials of the electoral district of Anamaduwa, Mr. Dassanayake said "Though I was responsible for tarnishing my name in Anamaduwa I now want to be a disciplined man and I will make sure that I will be just and fair during the forthcoming election".

He said when talking of elections the first place that comes to people's mind is Anamaduwa. The reason for this Mr. Dassanayake said was its bad record of terror tactics during previous elections.

He said the time has dawned for these acts of murder and mayhem to be stopped once and for all. 'This time I want to make sure the elections will be peaceful. So let anyone put up flags, we will not stop it, we will put up our flags making sure they are high enough so that no one will be able to cut them down", Mr. Dassanayake said.

"I admit that my idea at the time which was that we should win by any means is wrong and seeing the unity among the people now I feel sad. With the many capable leaders we have now we will definitely win this time", he said.

"History has shown that at elections held since 1994 when the JVP and the SLFP joined hands we have won and the win this time will be another record. I am sure about it ", Mr. Dassanayake said.
