Public hunt for Trustee
The Minister of Buddha Sasana has appointed Ministry Secretary N Weralupitya as Acting Public Trustee as Public Trustee N.S.A.S Seneviratne has gone 'missing' following summons issued on him by the Commission Investigating Allegations of Bribery and Corruption.

Mr. Seneviratne has been reported "missing" since the end of last month. The Public Trustee was summoned in connection with an allegation by the Central Bank that he had deposited more than some Rs. 390 million of public funds in the now disgraced Pramuka Bank and obtained commissions in the form of 'Gold Certificates'.

The CID is reported to have found substantial evidence to prosecute the Public Trustee on charges of criminal breach of trust one month ago, but the file has yet to be sent to the Attorney General.

Mr. Seneviratne who was reportedly evading the Bribery Commission had his passport impounded last week following speculation that he was to leave the country.

Mr. Seneviratne who was summoned before the Commission to make a statement asked for another date through his lawyers but it was refused. Bribery Commissioner Kingsley Wickramasuriya told The Sunday Times that officers of the Commission were looking for the Public Trustee.
