‘Run To Me’ brings Verginia tofame
Virginia Hapuarachchi, our cover girl today, is a sixteen-year-old singing sensation, born to Sri Lankan German parents in Germany. Her maiden CD ‘Run To You’ released last week . The CD comprises of eight original songs written and sung by Virginia.

Songs ‘Make You Cry’, ‘Player’, ‘In My Dream’, ‘Nothing’ ‘Run To You’ and ‘Peace’ are all English songs and ‘Verliebt In Dich’ is a song in German. ‘Mage Adare’ is a Sri Lankan English song . The music backing for ‘Run To You’ was provided by Exodus led by Sarath Fernando.

Virginia started her music career at the age of six years, watching musical movies like the West Side stories and many more. She developed her talents in music becoming vocalist in school concerts. She took part in a Karaoke competition at the “Show Boat” in Sri Lanka and participated in “TNL on STAGE” singing competition for musicians. She writes lots of lyrics for soft rock and loves mid tempos.

Among the international bands she loves “Match Box Twenty, Goo Goo Dolls and U 2. Last month she was featured in SLBC’s programmes Saturday Night and Saturday Pop Club and every Sunday on Channel 101.7 on TNL radio. Her father Walter Hapuarachchi is married to a German lady and now resides in Germany.

Between 1994 to 1999 they lived in Australia. Virginia had her basic education in Germany and continued her studies for five years in Highgate Primary School, Australia. After sometime she came to Sri Lanka for the first time and studied at Stafford International School for an year and joined the British School in Colombo and completed her O/L levels.

In the future she wishes to study music in Germany and make more albums of her own and to take part in vocals if opportunities arise. - Dunstan Wickremaratne
