Rajeeva Weerasinghe bowls Joes to win

St. Joseph's College Colombo took sweet revenge from St. Benedicts when they outclassed them by an innings and 34 runs in their match concluded at Kotahena yesterday.

The winner for the Darley Road school was the right arm off spinner Rajeeva Weerasinghe who ripped through the batting of St. Benedict's. After taking 3/27 in the first innings he took 7/23 in the second.

St. Joseph’s lost to the Kotahena school last year at Darley Road by 7 wickets. This is the third victory for St. Joseph's this season after beating Maris Stella Negombo and De Meaznod, Kandana.

Joes continuing from 143/6 declared at 223/8 with a first innings lead of 122 runs.

Taking the lease for second time St. Benedict’s were shot out for a low score of 89 just before tea. With this victory in the 83rd encounter Joes are leading the series with 38 to St. Benedicts 4, while 41 games have ended in no decisions.

Peterites on 1st innings
St. Peter's registered a first innings win over St Sebastian's in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket match concluded at Moratuwa yesterday. In reply to the Peterites score of 254 the Sebs resuming on their overnight score of 46 for 2 were bundled out for 105 with spinner Sohan Boralessa (4/5) supported by Shehan Wijetunge (3/33) and Shanaka Fernando (2/26) doing the damage. Made to follow on the Sebs ended the day on 216 with skipper Dunil Abeydeera making 52.

Easy for Ananda
Ananda coasted to an easy first innings win over S. Thomas's in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday. The Anandians having made a mammoth 371 for 8 declared had the Thomians in deep trouble when they bowled them out them for 180 and made them bat again.

But the Thomian skipper and Sri Lanka Youth player Kaushal Silva with a superb knock of 86 which had 14 boundaries and a six saved them to end the day on 178 for 5.

Wesley-Trinity drawn
A dashing knock of 75 by Anoj Ketapearachchi with 11 fours and a six helped Wesley settle for a draw in their inter-school encounter at Campbell Place yesterday.

Wesley who were set a winning target of 212 to win in little more than a session went in at 154 for 8. Thanks to Ketapearachchi who held the Wesley batting together. Ketapearachchi also was involved in a 72 run stand for the 3rd wicket with Kasun Seneviratne who made a contribution of 23 runs. Earlier in the day, Wesley continuing from their overnight total of 85 for 7 were all out for 104 runs with Trinity medium pacers Mufti Muneer (5 for 51) and Clifford Fernando (4 for 28) sharing nine wickets between them.Trinity in their second essay declared at 136 for 6 leaving the home team a target of 212 to win.

Trinity paceman Mufti Muneer finished the game with an impressive haul of 8 for 106.

Upul's second ton
An allround performance by Dilan Anthony who made 88 in the first innings and a century in the second innings and with match figures of 6 for 26 together with another fine century by skipper and Sri Lanka Youth player Upul Tharanga which was his second successive ton helped Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda to an easy first innings win over Mahinda Galle in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket match concluded at Ambalangoda yesterday.

Dharmasoka - 183 (Dilan Anthony 88, Nalaka Thenuwara 34, Dinusha de Silva 18; P. Chanditha 5 for 44, H.B. Perera 3 for 56, C. Keerthisinghe 2 for 26) and 260 for 8 at close (Upul Tharanga 102, Dilan Chanditha 105 n.o.; C. Keerthisinghe 5 for 80, P. Chanditha 2 for 13)

Royal fightback
Royal sent in to bat were struggling at 41 for 3 and the top order gone 133 for 6 against the sustained and accurate bowling coming from pacemen Selwyn Jamion. But a great fight back by no 4 batsmen pencil-slim Naveen Dias 162 not out (off 215 balls with 21 fours and a six) and Heshan Morawaka 50 not out (with a four) helped the Reid Avenue school in an aggressive and attractive 157-run undefeated seventh wicke stand to total 290 for 6 dec. against St. Anthony's Katugastota on day one at Reid Avenue yesterday.

It was a delayed start. The Match was scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with some dew on the pitch but still fit for play according to umpires D.N.Pathirana and Saman Hewawitharne. The Antonian coach thought otherwise. With the two captains agreeing the game got under way at 10.30a.m.

Royal off to a shock start in the very first over hurled by Mohamed Rizlan had opener Sukitha Senaviratne out for nought. Selwyn Jamion proved to be most economical with 4 for 42.

The hill capital school in reply made 28 for 2 at close Gangling pacemen C.Somapala in his first over with a beautiful delivery had Madiwela beaten and bowled for four. The other wicket was captured by off spinner Rathnayake. The match will commence today at 9.30 a.m. Royal play Dharmapala on Jan . 13 and 14 at Reid Avenue, followed by Nalanda on 15 and 16 (away)- four successive days of cricket.
