By Susitha R. Fernando

‘Yaso Mandira’ a tale of children brought up not knowing their relatives because the widowed mother decides to break away from the family is telecast every Friday at 9.00pm on Swarnavahini.

Nimal Rathnayake directs the teledrama and it stars Wasanthi Chathurani, Chathrika Peries, Ravindra Yasas, Sujani Menaka, Pradeep Senanayake, Prasad Suriyaarachchi and Sahan Ranwala and it.

Sepalika with two daughters became a widow when her husband died of a cancer early in their married life. The widowed mother was disowned by the family for flouting the wishes of the parents. The other problem in her life was the doubt over patronage.

Her two young daughters Divya and Rashme were not aware of these matters. Even though the two girls had beautiful features Divya was vastly different from the sister. Divya is dreaming of leading a luxurious life while Rashme desires a simple life style. She gets friendly with a poor Muslim young man, Thuwan, who is employed in a petrol shed. Divya thinking the sister’s choice to be unsuitable vehemently protests over it.

Meanwhile Sepalika’s brother Jagath who is a doctor gets a transfer to a hospital close to where the sister lives. The two have not met for a long time and Jagath has been searching for her for a long time. This was because he wants Sepalika’s help to settle the father’s estate since he had died intestate.
However, Sepalika was not on good terms with Jagath and her younger sister Mangala due to the shabby treatment given her by them when she appealed for father’s assistance while the husband was on his deathbed.

A three-wheel driver who lives in the same area is a great help to Sepalika’s family. But there is an ulterior motive behind all his support for Sepalika.
Meanwhile doing several odd jobs Sepalika struggles to keep the family going.
Divya is an under graduate studying at the Open University. She hides her real family background from others as her only dream was to lead an extravagant life in future. She keeps away from young students in order to pursue her dream.

ut, ironically she meets Charith her unknown cousin, Jagath’s only son. What would happen to Divya’s dream? Would she give into any of the young men coming after her? Would Rashme be able carry on with her poor boy friend? All these would be answered at the end of ‘Yaso Mandira’.
