Advertising giant Reggie dies
The razzle dazzle world of advertising lost one of its most celebrated figures yesterday with the death of Reggie Candappa at the age of 84. Starting as a cartoonist in Lake House in the 1940s Reggie Canadappa went far beyond his artistic caricatures to build one of Sri Lanka's advertising giants-Grant McCann Erickson.

eshabandu Reggie Candappa early in his carreer as an artist, journalist and photographer showed the extraordinary allround potential that helped him later to turn Grants into a market leader and key player in the multi-million rupee multimedia advertising industry.

Well-known and widely respected Reggie Candappa also played a dynamic role in social life as the head of the Colombo Club and the Colombo Chetty Association and patron of the George Keyt Association among other associations. He had two daughters Neela and Sriyani, both of whom followed their father into the blaze of the advertising world.

Neela Marikkar is now the Managing Director of Grant McCann Erickson while Sriyani Tindball is the Managing Director of Minds FBC and is a lecturer in architecture in the US. Reggie Candappa's body is now lying at his residence, 15A Anderson Road, Colombo 5 and the funeral will take at the General Cemetery, Kanatte at 4.00 p.m. on Monday.
