‘Sooriya Show’: The glamour of Sinhala pop
Sooriya Show will be staged agin at the BMICH on November 29.
Very rarely has there been so much enthusiasm shown for a musical show as was for the ‘Sooriya Show’ at the BMICH on Sunday, May 4 this year.
The Sooriya Show was much sought after as a stage show in Colombo as well as the outstations.

The popularity of the Sinhala pop artistes that were recorded on the ‘Sooriya’ label combined with the charismatic popularity of the all time compere of the star spangled Sooriya Show, Vijaya Corea, lent itself unfailingly to fill the hearts of audiences with ecstatic joy.

The show will feature the evergreen compositions and matchless hits of Clarence Wijewardena, Indrani Perera, Anil Bharati, Paul Fernando, A. E. Manoharan, Dharmaratne Brothers, La Bambas, Noeline Honter and Dalreen Suby supplemented by the Mendis Foursome, Victor Silva and Winslow Six.

The late C.T. Fernando and Milton Mallawarachchi were represented by their very popular sons, Priyantha Fernando and Ranil Mallawarachchi. Rajiv and the Clan provide the music, while the ultimate in choreography including sound, lighting and dance enriched the Sooriya Show, giving it meaning and relevance, when the idiom of music associated with the Sooriya Show. This was projected in a spectacular and contemporary setting.

Vijaya Corea, who compered the show then and also presented the “Sooriya Show’ on radio, will once again compere this show. Damayantha and Rajiv of DR Entertainments, who have spared no pains to make this repeat performance bigger and better, are overjoyed, with the public response evinced thus far to the Sooriya Show.
