WPRFU veterans 10-a-side rugby today
For the first time the Western Province Rugby Football Union has organized a Veteran 10-a-side rugby tournament among the clubs in the district. It will kick-off on Sunday November 16 at 9.00 a.m. at Longdon Place.

According to Fazal Mahmud President WPRFU this off-season tournament is to infuse enthusiasm among and develop the game at grassroots level with junior rugby programmes. Twelve clubs are expected to scrum down, barring CH&FC for reasons best known, to them. Isipathana Old Boys Rugby Club will take part. Quite a number of past stalwarts will scrum down.

The other clubs who will take part are CR&FC, Havelocks SC, Petersons SC, Army, Air Force, Navy, Police SC, Jawatte Rugbuy Club, Old Peterites, Puffins RFC, OZSC.
This tournament will help to bring about togetherness and understanding among the clubs. Western Province R.F.U., the most active province in the country, is doing much for the promotion of the sport.

They have a junior coaching programme especially for the newcomers to the sport (Schools) for the kids to indulge in competitive rugby. The inaugural tournament will also serve to bring about family re-union among the rank and file.

The Chairman Tournament Committee WPRFU the inaugural Veterans 10-a-side has got the support from Scanwell Freighters. It will be played in four groups:- A: Navy, OPSC, Police 'B'- Puffins HSC, Army 'C'- Jawatte, CR&FC 'Pathana', D- Air Force Petersons Old Zahirians. - BW
