Mahinda to be indicted for attack on grads
Minister Mahinda Wijesekara is to be indicted for his involvement in the attack on unemployed graduates who were carrying out a token protest fast in the Kottegoda area in Matara two months ago.

The Sunday Times learns that Mr. Wijesekara is to be charged for unlawful assembly and causing mischief and hurt. Minister Wijesekara, along with a group of his supporters had allegedly surrounded the graduates who were protesting opposite a place where a government exhibition was in progress. Several ministers and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had been invitees to the exhibition.

Six unemployed graduates were critically injured during the attack and rushed to the Matara hospital. Later a Buddhist monk had attempted suicide by setting himself on fire in protest against the attack.

The Minister had denied any involvement in the incident, but eyewitnesses confirmed the minister was present during the attack.
