Eelam Bank listed in Bank of Ceylon report

The Eelam Bank has been listed in the 'Business Intelligence Report' of the Bank of Ceylon for October 2003 as one of the financial institutions that has opened new branches that month.

The Report, circulated among the bank staff, lists the Eelam Bank under the financial institutions column and under the column listing new branches it states Saampoor Kada Karachchena. Under the third column, it states this is the first branch in Trincomalee district as at 31st October 2003.

The other banks listed as having opened new branches in October are Sampath bank, Bank of Ceylon, Hatton National bank, Pan Asia Bank, National Savings Bank, LOLC and Thomas Cook (India) Ltd.

The Report, signed by the Chief Manager, Economic Research Division/ Director Training, D.D.H.Samarasinghe states that the information has been obtained from reliable sources. However we do not confirm their accuracy, completeness and the genuineness, it states.

Mr. Samarasinghe told The Sunday Times some of the information obtained was based on newspaper reports and circulated for the benefit of the bank employees.
He added that unauthorised financial institutions are also listed as the document is meant for the use of banking personnel only.
