Exciting Fun Golf at the Ridgeways
Once again the annual 5 Club Golf Competition at the Royal Colombo Golf Club sponsored by HSBC was outstandingly successful with much credit to Sarath Piyaratne and his formidable team comprising Trevine Fernandopulle, Arjun Fernando and a sprinkling of others which included a bevy of gorgeous lady assistants.

The Waggle
An absolutely new movement in the technique of striking the ball off the tee has filtered into the game. It's the preswing "hula hula" hip shifting that causes accuracy sometimes and amusement at other times. Frank Weeraratne has it most delicately but occasionally its rushed causing disaster.

Norman Gunewardena does resemble the "hula hoop" and when he gets over anxious and accelerates its quite amusing. Padmarisi Dias does the typical rooster style movement preceding a love affair with his favourite hen and that's gorgeous to watch. The waggle is the vogue, the infection is spreading with Anel de Silva, the latest to embrace the movement with success.

Ahamed Wins
Arshad Ahamed has been playing excellent golf these days. In great form the hefty young man swiped the "A" Division classic and also won the longest drive contest comfortably. Chutti Munsoor pipped Navin de Silva and came 2nd.

"B" Division
Tall and slender Chaminda Galagedera moved comfortably to reach 40 points and win the "B" Division beating Paul Bishop and Chamath Kulasinghe by narrow margins. Kulasinghe & Bishop had praiseworthy scores of 38 each.

Playing a steady and calculating game Gerrard Amarasinghe got ahead of Priya Samarasinghe to pick the "C" Division trophy. At the award ceremony Priya got ahead of Amerasinghe with a louder round of applause. In the Seniors event "Old Man River" Norman Chandraratne still playing great golf for his age beat arch rival K.K.U. Perera who never gets unhappy in defeat. In the popular Ladies Event attractive Manori Jayakody beat Ranee Brennan by just one stroke.

Disaster Zone
Packed to capacity with ponds almost brimful the pond boys collected a harvest. Nirmal Hettiarachchi picked a massive dose of aquaphobis, Nimal Wettimuny plunged and Thejan de Silva lost all his balls in attempts to pass water.

Lunch & Awards
Gamini, the Executive Chef produced a super Oriental Buffet which was laced with enormous HSBC hospitality. Mark Humble was elegant in speechcraft and Sarath Piyaratne added the posh finishing touches.

Norman Gunewardena joined them to distribute the awards. Meantime a few decided that they could sing and they certainly produced riot, storm and tempest in an attempt to get unison and harmony.

Sidat Wettimuny brought relief with an excellent rendering of "The Wonder of You" in typical Perry Como style. Great forenoon, terrific afternoon and altogether a smashing HSBC sponsorship.
