Big boost for Bloomfield
Bloomfield C and A.C., the century-old club with a cherished cricketing history achieved yet another first. when they received a Golden Key Credit card from the oldest credit card firm. This is the first time that this facility has been afforded to a club. The card will be utilised by Bloomfield members.

This was presented to the immediate past president Shelley Wickremasinghe after the club's general meeting by Mr. Orville Perera, Asst. General Manager, Golden Key Card, in the presence of Upali Dharmadasa, President of Bloomfield.

Shelley, despite years rolling by, still serves the Bloomfield Ex-co with his know-how. He could be tagged as the 'Patron Saint' of Bloomfield for his contributions to the club during trying times. He even served its cause with his own men and material when the club was running from pillar to post. It was his unflagging enthusiasm supported by the membership that the club was able to get a permanent abode at Reid Avenue.
It was one of the nurseries that gave the less privileged cricketers to go places. Some of them are even playing at the national level now.

The present president Upali Dharmadasa is continuing Shelley's good work. Incidentally Shelley served as vice-president to late Mr. Robert Senanayake, when he was the President of the Cricket Board.

Mr. Perera told The Sunday Times that this was the first time his firm afforded this opportunity to a club with its Credit Card. They hope to co-brand the card with other sports clubs, too in the metropolis. -BW
