Partying in the park
By Marisa de Silva
The dance floor packed to capacity, roofed by a transparent dome-type ceiling, a DJ console set up on stage, food and drinks galore and enough hip hop and R ‘n’ B that kept the crowds dancing till dawn.

This was what the transformed Navam Mawatha car park looked like last Saturday night (August 23) when the ‘Party in the Park’ made local youth party like never before!

The setting was stupendous, the atmosphere electrifying and the lighting out of this world. Sri Lankan crowds witnessed turntable mixing by two internationally acclaimed DJs from Singapore, DJ Andrew Chow, (Technics Champion, Singapore) and DJ William Goh. The mixing of the music was professional and smooth, where one could hardly tell when one song ended and the other began.

“The atmosphere and set up’s just great!” said a group of youngsters at the event, whilst yet another said, “The music and mixing is very good; this is probably the closest we’ve come to organizing an event to international standards.”

Guest appearances by Iraj ‘n’ da ill noize, featuring Urban Sounds and DJ Tariq entertained the audience by initiating crowd participation and lots of noise. The surround sound speaker system and confetti falling on the crowd from above definitely helped to heighten the experience and add to the atmosphere. The lighting display by master of sounds was spectacular. The latest in club music was played much to the crowd’s delight.

A modified Car Show too was part of the agenda. Many young men were either getting the feel of the cars by getting behind the wheel or just checking it out. ‘Party in the Park’ was quite a hit, living upto its promise of being one of the most exciting events of the season. For all those who were there, you know what I mean, but for those who missed out, hopefully there’ll be a next time!
